Q: should you bring a large bag for camping or just a medium size?
im going for a 5-day camp in the jungle, should i bring a large backpack or just a medim size
A: Are you going by yourself or with a group? If with a group, surely they have recommendations of what you need to bring. That list, plus your own strength and capabilities should decide what and how much you carry.
Q: Is “at large” backpacking and camping allowed in Australia’s Mount Kosciusko National Park?
A: You can camp anywhere in the park, except in the catchments of the alpine lakes (Blue, Club, Albina, Cootapatamba Lakes, and Headle Tarn). I think that there is also a restriction on camping close to roads. At the moment there are also some closed areas because of recent bushfires.

Q: can you help me to find a backpack please. hey!?
not like some lame camping backpack nor a backpack with a large logo or brand name on it. just something simple yet cool.
A: A lot of people wear Jansports but they get soaked easily. One time in P.E more than half the kids in my class went to get their backpacks after the bell ran (it was a light drizzle) and they found the inside and outside of their backpacks wet or really moist (I didnt have one though just saw my friends). Personally I absolutely LOVE dakine backpacks! >< The backpacks from Vans are amazing and I loved them. I have one from Vans and yeah... x) A bit expensive but they are really nice.
A Dakine one looks like this:

Theres some that have better deigns though so go to a Vans store
Q: Is it safe to backpack and camp out in Armenia?
I wouldn’t be near any large towns or cities; I’d be taking m tent off into the countryside. Would it be fair to expect to return alive, with my wallet, and still a virgin? If not, are there any other Eastern European countries that would be better?
A: Well, we have a saying: “The unlucky Bedouin would meet a polar bear in the desert.”
It depends on your luck, I guess. How can anyone guarantee anything out in the wild?
Q: Can anyone give me some sleeping bag & backpack suggestions?
Need some new gear – in the market for a good sleeping bag, never in temps lower then 20 degrees – need to pack realy small – no moer then $150 – Also need large backpack, enough for a lot of gear 2 – sleep bags/ 2- thurmrest/1- tent/ misc cook gear/ other misc camp stuff. thanks
A: Some outdoor stores will rent out equipment. This is a good way to see what you like without buying something that you come to dislike.
Order up a REI catalog, or Campmor (a little cheaper typically).
Contact these companies on line for advice, they should help you out.
Q: Suggestions for a baby/toddler backpack?
My husband and I are planning on doing some camping/backpacking once the weather warms up (it’s still snowing where we live and we’re beginning to wonder what Spring is) and we are in need of a baby/toddler backpack. My son is 10 months old and weighs in at a nice, healthy 35 pounds so an INFANT carrier is out of the question. He is much to heavy for those. I am referring to the ones with a large frame that carry ~50 pounds or more. I have no idea what names are good and reliable and research I’ve done hasn’t turned up very good answers. Anyone with a suggestion, please let me hear it! Thanks!
A: We have a Kelty Kids backpack. It is wonderful. It is quite comfortable to wear, easy to put on and my son loves being in it (he’s 14 months and around 25-30lbs). We camp and it is a lifesaver — we bought it to use in place of our Ergo carrier on long hikes/camping.
It is like this one:

We managed to find a gently used one on craiglist for about half of the new price.
Q: Where is a good place for tent camping in the Western Carolinas or Eastern Tennessee?
We are looking for a place where we can drive to a campsite, then pitch our tent. So many campsites either require you to backpack in your stuff, or they are just for you to park your RV.
Any ideas… our tent is fairly large.
A: I’ve camped on the Blue Ridge parkway, at the Smokies, at Mount Mitchell State Park, NC (you can camp at the top at the state park or there are private campgrounds below it), New River State Park, NC (there are drive in and canoe in sites), Stone Mountain State Park, NC, and I’ve wanted to camp at South Mountain State Park, NC.
In Hot Springs, NC the private campground is on the French Broad River, on the Appalachian Trail, has a great little town, and has hot tubs!
I’ve camped in NC in Nantahala National Forest , Linville Gorge, Roan Mountain, TN area, and wanted to camp in Mt Rogers, Joyce Kilmer and Shining Rock areas, but haven’t gotten to it yet.
Have Fun!
Q: My dog pissed on my back pack, it stinks! what can i do?
I have a north face “hot shot” it appears to be mostly waterproof. I can not identify exactly where my dog pissed on it, but it appears that the stench is coming from the inside. The bag is black and silver on the inside. It is a normal size backpack not one of the large camping ones. What can i do?!?!
A: Yikes!! If you can’t put it in the washer, then empty it out, turn it inside out and shake a liberal amount of baking soda all over it, especially where it stinks. This will kill most of the odor. Then put it out in the sun to air out for several hours. Otherwise, put it in the washing machine on hot if you can(check the backpack for tags for washing instructions) and add 1/2 cup of baking soda to your normal detergent. You should probably also air dry in the sun so you won’t damage the backpack in the dryer.
Q: Question on What kind of Travel Bag to Use in Australia?
I am traveling for about 1.5 months from Mexico, then to Australia and finally in Fiji. I was wondering if someone experienced with prolonged travel could tell me if I should use a cargo style large bag or if a Kelty/ North Face, large style backpack would do the trick. I won’t be doing anything majorly strenuous but there will be camping involved and as I said, I will be away for about 1.5 months. Thanks.
A: Having travelled twice around Europe with the same backpack, this is definitely the way to go (hands free, weight distributed on shoulders, waist). As you are only going for 1.5 months, you will have more than enough room for all your stuff. Pack it then take half your clothes out – you will not need them!
Q: What is a good place to go camping / backpacking in California forest for advanced hiker?
I have hiked in the forests in Minnesota, which are some pretty wild and large forests. I would like to try something similar in California. I am ocated in Southern California, and have noticed on a map, Sequioa park looks quite large, but I see roads run through some of it. I dont want to see any roads when I hike, maybe some camping ground every ten miles or so would be PERFECT!
Any Hikers in Cali who like the forest hikes and camps, please let me know whats up.
A: Sequoia is connected to Kings Canyon. The end of the road there is called Cedar Grove. You can hike into the back country from there as far as you like. There is a 45 mile loop called the Rae Lakes loop which is very nice. Part of it is on the JMT / PTC. You can also hike from Cresent Meadow in Sequoia on the High Sierra trail. It will take you to the Kaweah Gap and beyond. Google some of these names and have a great hike. As always the more days the better
Q: best north face backpack?
i like the durability of north face so i decided to purchash one for school and camping. Im wondering whats the best backpack they have out right now with a good, large size to fit plenty of clothing, books, binders and other thick materials? thanks
A: I would recommend The North Face Recon. I remember looking at it in an REI store a couple of years ago and being quite impressed with it. It has a laptop sleeve, hydration port, organizer pocket, large front mesh pocket, and much more.
If you’re willing to consider other brands, the Kelty Torrey 1950 is awesome. I’ve owned it for about 2 years, and I use it all the time–for day hiking, camping, and just carrying stuff around town.
It has so many cool features I can’t even list them all here. Let me just say it has everything the Recon has and more, like an integrated rain cover that zips away into its own pocket. It has held up well, although a zipper on one of the small hip belt pockets broke right after I bought it.
I’m sure you will be happy with either of those choices.
Q: Dependable hiking/camping gear?
Hi all, I am looking for some brands of hiking/camping gear that are not wallet busting but still extremely dependable for solo or 2-person hiking and camping. Specifically I am looking for a large light-weight back pack, and an easy-set-up tent that packs easily in a backpack. Any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Q: what does a first time camper need?
i will be taking a two week camping trip through colorado and arizona next month with my class and i would like to know what i should bring. what items do i need? i don’t want to bring the kitchen sink with me and want to pack as lightly as possible. no more than a backpack and large duffle bag if i can (excluding a sleeping bag and maybe a few other items if needed). also what kind of tent should i look for, as there are probably going be two others included in my group. any extra advice would be cool too! thanx!
A: In the mountains I wouldn’t advise more than one backpack. You can’t carry too much stuff if you’re going to climb or descend mountains, so everything you take should fit in one backpack. For the rest you should try to follow some standard campers checklist. You need an experienced camper included in your group. Definitely!
Good luck.
Q: jansport backpacks at costco?
a few years ago, i bought a jansport backpack at costco. it was big and had a laptop pocket and looked almost like a camping backpack. costco doesn’t sell them anymore, but i can’t find the name of it either. i want the same backpack, because it’s really good. it’s a navy blue color with a very tiny pocket on the top by the handle and two large pockets, and two smaller pockets in the front.
A: Go to www.jansport.com and look for it. Sometimes companies discontinue products, so don’t be surprised if you can’t find the same exact one anymore.
Q: Any one done a long (i.e. 2weeks+) camping trip in great britain?
Im looking at taking part in a large cycle trip around GB and much of the nights will be spent camping rather then in B&B’s and Inns etc, just need to know what i actually need. Of course i know th tent will be importnat, lol. Just what extras would you advise? Remembering that i will be carrying th equipment in backpack or on th bike (its a tour’er).
Thanks L
(please no daft answers just for th 2points, this is something im doin for kids with cancer, so please tak th question seriously)
A: camping club uk will tell you where all sites are and good luck from all in uk.
