Q: Does anyone know of a place in the UK where you can hire tents & camping equipment?
Not tents which are already pitched for you (as in Eurocamp) but ones which you hire and take with you.
A: You should be able to find what you need at this tent2hire site…

Good luck!
Q: Camping equipment (tents especially) that are made in canada?
I’m looking for a tent (for two people so one that is rated as 3 or 4 people), nothing fancy, just a regular plain old summer tent, workmanship can suck, nothing over the top or aerodynamic. just a plain tent, that happens to be made in canada.
Can anyone tell me where to find one?
A: MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) has stores across Canada that sell all sorts of tents. Or you can order from them online. http://www.mec.ca/Main/content_text.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302881709&bmUID=1182215025249
These might be a bit too fancy for you? http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_listing.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302702837¤tPage=2&bmUID=1182215128091
Can we have your health care system now please?
Q: Charity needing tents/camping equipment?
i have a family tent, stove etc hardly used and wondered if there was a charity(uk) that i could donate them to?
A: You could try somone like the local Scout or Guide group – they do a lot of camping. Army cadet forces go camping too but get grants for their equipment.
Other charities might be someone like the Red Cross or St Johns Ambulance who use tents when providing first aid cover for events.
Not sure what other local charities you have down there but there are loads that would welcome the equipment
Q: Can you rent camping equipment at Yosemite National Park?
I am traveling to Yosemite this year to camp for a few days while in California. Is there anywhere in or near the park where you can rent camping equipment (tent, cooking supplies, sleeping, etc.)?
A: Depending on where you are coming from this may be what you’re looking for.
For some items you may be better off buying new (cheap sleeping bag at Walmart for the price of the rental) or checking the 2nd hand stores for things like fold out chairs.
Q: Any Charities that would like tent/camping equipment?
I have a large family tent plus some equipment hardly used, is there a charity that i can donate this to?
A: Boy Scouts, Local Church
Q: Is there a place to rent camping equipment in New England (NH, MA, VT)? Tents and cooking gear?
Is there a place to rent camping equipment in New England (NH, MA, VT)? Tents and cooking gear?
A: I do not know of anyplace but I think you would be surprised by how cheap the gear is for the things you mention. You can probably get fairly roomy tent for $20 – $25 at a place like wal-mart. Cooking equipment might be a bit more pricier but I would imagine it is not that cheap to rent either.
I don’t know if this helps. Sorry I can’t tell you a place to check out for rentals.
Q: I`m considering buying a tent and camping equipment, know any good sites to get advice?
I don`t know that much about it, so I don`t want just a selling site, but one which provides useful advice on the best to buy..
A: I like this one. `Guide to buying the right tents & sleeping bags.`
It discusses type of tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads, as well as other important items.

Q: What are some name brand camping equipment manufactures (10 pts)
Who are some of the top manufactures for camping equipment such as sleeping bags, tents, climbing gear, backpacks, stoves, etc…
I would like to browse their websites.
I need something a little more heavy duty for upper Canada/Alaska near the tundra and lower forests.
I also woudn’t mind it being universal for the most extreme cold climates.
I get catalogs from Cabelas, Sierra Trading Post, and Gander Mountain.
Do you know any others?
A: Not really manufacturers but… As mentioned is REI and Adventure 16: http://www.adventure16.com/
The question for sleeping bags is whether you’re going to be in wet areas. It’s especially important at freezing temperatures to keep dry. I use synthetics in this type of weather. Another suggestion is a top of the line goretex bag with the best goose down available. Get the one with the best subzero rating that you can find, and when its warmer, leave it unzipped. Better a little cool on warmer nights than freezing your rear off during an unexpected storm. I’ve been snowed in for days during a freak blizzard and during that trip I took a light summer bag to save weight…. it was pretty miserable and a GREAT adventure, now I take the best and use it unzipped.
I believe that there are some good gortex covers that can be purchased.
EDIT: I just learned a little from this site: http://www.weasel.com/gear_bag.html

Q: 4 Season Camping Tents?
Lately I’ve been getting into the whole wilderness survival thing, and I’ve done a bit of a background research in it. I’ve come to find out it’s best to get 4 season tents because 1. You’re not limited to any type of season and 2. They’re vastly more durable than regular tents but I’ve still got a few questions I’d like cleared up.
Are the best tents really dome shaped? I’ve heard the dome or “cross bar top” shaped tents provide the best structure in high wind situations, I’d like the opinion of someone with experience. Is it really the Tent design or the way the person sets it up? Also I’ve heard that low profile tents are better suited for high winds just how low exactly? I’m more than willing to sacrifce head room for preformance (come on it’s a camping tent, you’re suppose to sleep in the thing not throw a dance party)
Are they’re any good 4 season tents that ARE NOT school bus yellow? I know some may argue this is a safety thing so you can find your way back to camp, but if the weather is really bad common sense says not to got wandering around. Plus my mother and father have gone hunting together, they say you can’t see the orange “safety” outfits even at 10 feet. This is just a personal choice thing.
And finally, are there any dependable, highly rated 4 season tents for 1 person? I’d like to travel as light as possible, I’ll settle for a 2 person tent if I have to but 1 person tents would be ideal.
As far as price goes it really doesn’t matter to me, I’ve come to find out as far as camping equipment goes you truly get what you pay for. And any additional information camping wise is welcomed by the way.
By the way I should point out that I’m mostly interested in preformance of the tent and it’s color, I’ll deal with a little extra weight in the pack if I have to but still it’s nice to look around for what you want.
A: I would recommend a good three season tent check under Sierra designs they make some great tents. I have had one now for a three years and camped in below zero weather in it and had some nasty rainfalls and have never had a problem. North face makes some great products as well. I am not sure where you live but in Canada we have a store called MEC they make their own brand of tents and are very good as well if you google MEC it will come up and you can look at their catalog. But if I was you check out Sierra Designs I would say they are the best tent on the market. I have the Electron a great two man dome tent with two vestibules.
Q: Which company provides the best camping equipment?
Mostly I want to look at sleeping bags, tents, pads, all that stuff. I’m not really looking to the cheaper stuff, but if need be the more expensive stuff because I know it will be goo quality. So far I have looked at North Face, L.L.Bean, and Eureka.
A: In general camping supplies the manufacturing company with the strongest reputation world wide is Coleman. You don’t have to spend big dollars to get great equipment and Coleman gear is often the most copied. Most everything is made in China these days though be it Coleman, North face, or Eureka. Also often the same gear is made in the same factory with different names glued on it. What tells you if a product is any good or not are the reviews you get from the people that have used it. Have you ever heard a complaint about a Coleman lantern for example? I have not, so why even buy a knock off century brand or primos. Now of course I can’t say that for every Coleman product some of their gear is just plain to heavy for backpacking and that’s not even their primary market. Now as for suppliers like L.L. Bean, who by the way do what I said before they stick their lable on other manufactures goods, when they offer name brand goods like Coleman or MSR or others and the price is right go ahead and buy it you know you won’t be disappointed. I like to buy from places that I can try it before I buy it and REI is a supplier that has that feature. They also show the reviews of all the products they sell and if it sucks they dump it. So check them out and compare.
Q: What equipment do we really need to go camping?
My husband, son (8 months) and I are going camping later this month, for three days. We have a tent, a canopy, an air-mattress, a lamp, sleeping bags and we’re going to buy one of those camping stoves. For our son, we have his pack-n-play. What else should we buy? It’s our first real outdoor tent-camping experience.
A: I’m going to advise you bring a first aid kit, lots of flashlights, warm clothes and that you have some way of keeping your child contained within a certain area. At 8 months he probably can crawl. All you need is to be wrestling with the tent and then, “Honey, wheres Johnny?” Be very prepared and safety oriented. Have fun!
