Q: What would be the best uk used car buy with ample storage for camping gear for a family of 4?
A: Depends how much money you have to spend but I would go for a Land Rover Discovery diesel they can start at around £1000-£1500 for a early 200TDI (built from 1989) and go right up to nearly new Discovery 3 for around £25,000
Q: What kind of camping gear, equipment & essentials do I need?
I am taking my family camping in a few weeks. What kind of camping equipment do I need?
I have a small list of what I have so far:
1. Tent
2. Sleeping bags
3. plates and silverware
4. food (but what kind?)
A: bug spray, sunscreen, clothes warm and cold it often gets cold at night depending on where you are.
Ponchos in case it rains, fishing poles, pots and pans how do you plan to cook? on the open fire on a grill? on a camp stove?
You might need charcoal, firewood, Propane depending on what and how you plan to cook.
Toilet paper, air matresses and pump, paper towels, hot dogs are a easy meal. Cooler with drinks and water.
It all depends how much you want to rough it.
Oh and don’t forget trash bags.
Q: i want to git some camping gear and start traveling the world but?
i want to git some camping gear and start traveling the world but how do i eat baeth and is thar any thing els i need to know any tips i dont have any family to take care of i will only have whats on my back and i want to see the world
A: Just do it!
Just grab a tent, some other camping stuff and head out of the normal life!
I mean you can of course plan for years and years… or you can just book a plane somewhere and start hitch hikeing etc
That way you will get an adventure and not just a holiday! lifes for living, so thats a tip!!!
you can also go for working holiday visas and get a job while you travel. Money can be a problem if you are fussy with jobs, but if you do not mind working in farms etc then you will be grand!
good luck!
Q: what is the largest family camping tent? we have 6 kids.. people plus gear..?
i want the biggest tent possible. to fit our bags as well..
A: You can get tents in any size you want to pay for.
But the bigger it is the heavier it is and takes up more room, both in the car as well as the camp site.
You will only be using it for sleeping and some storage, EXCEPT for food and other smellables!
You don’t want furry visitors in the tent.
Get a 3 room rectangle dome type.
Q: Going camping this summer What are the essentials?
I have zero camping gear and want to take a family of five camping at at state park. What do I absolutely need. Also, what should I avoid taking or doing? Thanks.
A: at a state park? I’m assuming your going to be camping at a campground and going in by vehicle, right?
here’s a list:
- a propane stove(since your going with a car or truck, size shouldn’t matter, coleman’s make a nice double burner for a reasonable price(20-30 bucks)).
- a couple tents, make them both 4 person tents, one for you and your wife and the other one for the kids, really nice to have some privacy, even on a family trip.
- good cookware- a two frying pans, maybe of varying sizes and a normal sized pot, and accessories like a spatula and large serving spoon
- paper plates and utensils
- food that won’t spoil easily like cured meats, dried foods(noodles, jerky, dried fruit).
- sleeping bags appropriate to the average conditions in the area you’ll be camping at.
- blankets for everyone in case the weather turns cold all of a sudden(happened to me, horrible night)
- a couple good knives, never know when they will get useful
- some toys and balls like a football, soccer ball, etc.
- maybe some books for when things wind down.
- a radio
- depending on where you are, but a bear can, good for two things, keeping the bears and other wildlife away from your camp and keeping bears away from your vehicle(they’ve been known to break into cars in yellowstone and other parks for food).
Q: What is the best place online to find a place for a family reunion with camping, hopefully in California?
I am hoping to rent the land/ranch for 3 days. I just need land with maybe water. We hope to camp and play games like Capture the Flag and Kick the can etc. We can bring our own gear food etc. Any ideas would be great thanks.

Q: What is the best car for my family?
It’s time for us to get a new car but we want to buy a used almost new…We need a car that fits our lifestyle and budget….We have 1 kid, need something fair on gas, reliable, able to tow a small trailer with 2 dirtbikes, haul our camping gear, and pick up our family member when the come to visit us, and not to big so my wife can drive it….
A: A minivan is easily capable of towing a small trailer (typically they can tow 3500 lbs), and an Odyssey or Sienna has WAY more room than either a Durango or Explorer, and will be much better on gas and more reliable.
If you don’t go off road, you don’t need an SUV. Get a nice clean used Odyssey or Sienna, you can’t go wrong.
Q: (experianced campers) Camping Gear List….?
My fiancee and I put a date to go camping the weekend of March 2, in Idywild mountains, a little camp ground called lake hemet. Its probley going to get pretty cold at night, but should be kinda nice during the day! So please help me put a list together, mabey even some easy dinners. I have been camping before, but with my family, its our first time going, and being responsible, for everything we will need!
Thank you!
A: stove, gas, pan, plates,cutlery,cups
lyons coffee bags, t bags, powdered milk, sugar
toilet roll, baby wipes, other washing stuff
sleeping bags, extra jumpers, waterproofs, thick socks, woolly hats.( extra warmth at night) You might need a blanket as well as sleeping bags in March – are you going by car ? If so you can take sleeping mats and extra duvets.
torch, matches/lighter, flask is useful
recommended food: instant noodles ,flavoured cous cous (quick to cook, light to carry) instant soups, porridge, which you can also add a little of to a stew, soups to thicken & provide extra nutrition.
cold foods: nuts, dried fruit, smoked tofu, lettuce, cheese, BREAD, butter/spread
for a stew: dried red lentils or smoked tofu hardly needs any cooking time & is quite nice raw , dried veg & onion & mushroom, dried minestrone soup to use as stock, lager/beer/water, a couple of potatoes, spices e.g .curry powder. The dried stuff makes it light to carry.
Plastic bags to put dirty stuff in. Water container.
If you want to be super organised you could practise putting up your tent with your fiance before you go. I don’t usually bother but I did this once and its definately worth it, especially if it’s raining when you arrive at your camping place.
I love camping and have been many times, thats all I can think of for now, enjoy your weekend.
Q: Camping Gear Basic Setup?
We are looking at starting to camp again but now we have children and its been a few years since we camped out so I am trying to come up with a list of basic items we should have when we head out as a family of 6. Of course I am not talking about a tent and sleeping bags those we obvioulsy have but I am thinking other basics such as for cooking etc? Any feedback from some seasoned family campers would be greatly appreciated.
A: All this gear
http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/family+camping+checklist.html
And your favorite family games to play like yahtzee. As big a screen house as you can get. A short garden hose with a nozzle for a shower. frs radios one for each person. Deet bug repellent and a solar powered bug zapper.
Q: what do you think of all the camping gear kids(and adults)have to have now?
This is just afew things my daughter and her family took last year(I stayed home with all the animals).
featherweight sleeping bags
nylon tent
dehydrated and vacuum-frozen food
little plastic tubes for peanut butter and jelly
cooking pot kits
And alot more lol
A: to add to RT66s RV, mine also has a microwave oven, heater, refrigerator/freezer, a full bathroom, and my very own comfortable bed…and as we are in the 3rd week of a 4 month trip around the country we are most grateful for all of it..
Q: Camping with an infant?
My wife and I are going camping in a few weeks and would like some advice on camping with an infant. During the day the temperatures will reach 80F but at night they could (possibly) drop as low as 30F. I want to make sure my 7month old is plenty warm at night. I have found I am warmer when wearing minimal clothes in my sleeping bag than when all bundled up. Should I bundle up my baby or strip him to just minimal clothing like myself? (Baby will be sleeping in the same bag as mommy)
Also any infant camping tips you can share would be great.
Note:
We have all the proper gear for camping (not the cheap Wal-Mart stuff) and years of experience camping and even teaching wilderness survival, but the whole “family camping” thing where you can still see your truck is new to us.
Extra details: Oh, and if it does get to cold we will head home as this trip is only a 30min drive so don’t worry, our baby will be warm one way or another.
A: I don’t think you need to be worrying as much as you are, especially since you have lots of camping experience. The family camping thing is really a piece of cake.
My daughter has been camping since she was less than six months old and has grown up loving it.
As far as the nights are concerned, you are on the right track by having your baby sleeping with your wife…or both of you. On cold nights sometimes I would have my daughter in my sleeping bag…sometimes we would zip two sleeping bags together and the three of us would sleep in there with baby in between us all snuggled up. I would always cuddle her close for the body heat though. The warm sleeper pajamas are ideal..again, that is what I used. The covered feet are important.
This should be warm enough, but just in case, bring an extra blanket or comforter with you in the tent and put it in a handy spot. If your wife wakes up in the middle of the night and feels cold or feels the baby is cold she can just grab it and put it on top of the sleeping bag for a little extra warmth.
As far as keeping your baby occupied, bring a portable crib for daytime naps and containment. Whatever his favorite toys are at home are perfect to bring along for camping, of course not including the big bulky ones. If it does not get too hot in the daytime, an empty tent with a few toys makes a great playhouse. A screen house that closes, if you have one, also works well, especially if it is too warm to be in a tent during the day.
We used to have a little chair that attaches to the side of the table and sort of hangs off the table. When camping the chair worked fine with the picnic table and we used this instead of a high chair.
Have a great time….you know what to do and what to bring…you will be fine. You really shouldn’t need to cut your trip short and head home in the middle of the cold night!
Q: Has anyone gone camping at Lake Camanche, CA?
I’m going in a few days and I’d like to know people’s experience. How did you like it? What not miss and what to avoid? Any tips will help. This is my first time camping with my family, there is 7 of us. Thank you for all your comments.
We got tents and all the jazz you need for camping, including fishing gear, but advice is very welcome!
A: It was thirty five years ago. There was two or three families camping with us. We had fishing boats. the fishing was about average. Everybody had dirt bikes back then and we just had a blast. I hope y’all have fun too. By the way I am THE ALL AMERICAN!!!!
Q: Best Diesel Family Vehicle Out There?
Hi, I am looking to get a car that takes diesel and is large enough to carry around two medium sized dogs, a baby, and camping gear when we go on long trips. I was looking into volkswagon, either their jetta wagon or the Eurovan. Love the style of the eurovan, but dont know too much about it.
A: The new Jetta TDI should be coming out in the spring of ‘08. Might be worth the wait. They’ll be making it in a wagon as well.
Q: Could someone give me camping advice?
We plan to go camping in SD this summer. Can anyone give any tips or advice on what is the bast tent & gear for a family of four?
A: http://camping.about.com/od/campinggearchecklists/l/blchklist.htm
check this link for a good camping check list
Q: Which is better for cooking gear propane or fuel?
My family wants to start camping. We have a large family so we want to be prepared when we start our new adventure. Which is easier to use?
A: Propane is a better choice, since it burns hotter and doesn’t need any special preparation like Sterno. I can’t help you in stove choice, since I don’t know if you are backpacking or will have access to a vehicle. A small backapacking stove cooked for ~12 hungry Boy Scouts and leaders on a backpacking trip, so they work (it took a while, but it got done) but two will be even better. Propane bottles also last a good long time, but do need to be replaced eventually. If you shake the bottle and there is no liquid sloshing around, then you need to replace it.
