Q: Where is a good place to camp close to the arches in Moab, Utah?
Me and some friends are planning to go down to Moab, Utah. I was appointed to set this trip for us. We are more of the outdoors guys. We would like to camp out near or at the Arches if possible. We will be bringing our mountain bikes, camping gear, and fishing poles. It would be great to be near a fishing area as well. We need a break from school until Fall semester starts. We are students at the University of Utah, we came here for the main reason to do as much of the outdoors stuff as possible.

Q: What Pet should I get for My Journey?
Hello All,
I know that this isn’t the average question, but i feel i must ask it because i can’t decide.
I am leaving everything behind to travel all of america.
I am only taking my car, my laptop, my gps unit, and some camping gear.
I would really like a pet to be with me, but i cannot choose what pet to get.
I love dogs and already have many dogs (but they’re my family’s – they’d never let me take one), but my money situation will be extrememly tight and i don’t know if i’d be able to supply a dog with enough food and attention.
So i guess i’m asking for a suggestion on a pet that would be spending a lot of time with me in a car and outdoors camping, who would be easy and cheap to feed, as well as something to keep me company as a friend.
Thank you for any suggestions, and please don’t just shout out the animals you have, I have many pets – this is a specialty question.
Good point. I was thinking of adopting from our local shelter, but my mother keeps harping at me saying that the vet bills to get it all vaccinated and stuff before i got will harm me greatly…
I think you’re right though. I think i just need to research good mid-sized outdoorsy dogs :]
Thank you.
A: Dogs seem to be the only type of pet that would do well in this sort of situation. Just get a smaller rescue dog> my chi/dachsund mix only eats about 1 cup of food a day…that is not much and you might be able to afford a smaller dog.
ADD: well im not sure about your shelter but at mine they vaccinate, deworm, microchip, and spay/neuter. That cuts down on a lot of money spent on the dog.
Q: What are some good presents to get my boyfriend? Please help…guys especially.?
My boyfriend’s 18th birthday is coming up…as is Christmas. And I have no idea what to get him for either. I’m one of those people who always has to get absolute perfect gifts for people, but this year I’m just completely out of ideas…for everyone.
We’ve been dating for about a year and a half, so I want to get him something really awesome. I’m 18, and price doesn’t really matter that much (though $150 and under is preferred).
He’s in love with the Buffalo Bills, so I was thinking about getting him tickets to the game – but one of my friends beat me to it.
So then I was thinking of getting him an Aaron Schobel jersey (since that’s his favorite player) but I can’t find it in a large anywhere in stores or online.
He also loves the outdoors and camping, but I don’t know where to go with that idea. He already has camping gear and whatnot, besides something like that I don’t think would be personal enough.
He also loves “geeky” things like DnD (and those funny, dorky shirts that have DnD jokes on them). He likes videogames too, and has a Wii and an xbox.
So, I guess I have a lot of options already – but none of them seem to be good enough, even if I got all of them together. How am I supposed to compete with Bills tickets? lol
Please help…especially you guys out there. If you’re a football fan, camper, or DnD geek (or none of the above) tell me what the best presents were that you’ve gotten from girlfriends/wives, or just what you think I should get for my guy.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I thought about getting him concert tickets too, but I can’t find any concerts/comedy shows in or near central New York before Christmas that he would like.
A: You can by an XL jersey… it shouldn’t matter if it’s a little big.
You should buy something sexy for the bedroom too, perhaps christmas themed. Sex is the best present you can ever get a guy.
Q: Sister just got married and want to get her kick butt gift?
Ok so my sister married an awesome guy and I want to get THEM (not just her) a great gift since I had a ridiculous 2006. To give some background, both of these fools love the outdoors and aren’t about flash in anyway. They are huge travelers (Africa is their honeymoon) but both of them are very well prepared. They already have all the things they could want or need associated with whatever they are doing (e.g. already have bikes, camping gear, travel gear, ski gear, golf gear, bouldering gear…). I need to go outside of the box for this uncoventional two and I am willing to lay down up to $5k to make sure they get the best. Anyone have any ridiculously original ideas? Thanks in advance!
Two things:
1) I’m a guy (just thought I would let you know)
2) They are already doing some many adventure activities and vacations that I feel like they won’t appreciate it as much. Also, they have pretty crazy schedules.
Thanks again in advance….btw we live in Chicago (just in case that helps!)
A: Snorkling lessons
Hot air balloon ride
Sky diving certificate
Surf boards and surf lessons
A mini-getaway somewhere they offer horse back riding lessons
A trip to Machu Pichu (Peru) -if they are the hiking, adventorous kind-
Good luck
Q: Can any one recommend a good back pack for camping/hiking?
My wife and I are a very outdoors couple and over the summer we did alot of camping and fishing. I have been using my old Air Force rucksack to carry all out gear in, but this really has not been working out. What im looking for is something that can hold all the food we would need for 3 days have a place for a sleeping bag and a tent, and alot of smaller pockets for smaller items. If anyone has any ideas, please help. Thanks!!
A: Currently I have a Kelty that is about 12 years old. But if I were to buy a pack today it would be either an Osprey or a Gregory. Both are great quality packs and are reasonably priced. My current pack has 2 external pull length pockets on both sides and a smaller pouch in the front, yet they seem to be a thing of the past. More and more companies are going for a more “streamlined” pack. So it is getting harder to find packs with built in ext. pockets. But I`d definitely go for an Osprey or Gregory Pack.
Backpacker.com did a gear review, which included backpacks, not too long ago so you may want to check out their site to see the testers reviews. I would go to a major retailer such as EMS, REI or Campmor and try on the packs and maybe even ask them what they use. But, I would buy it on Backcountry.com because they have a no questions asked 100% return policy, so if you bust it or just dont like it you can return it for an exchange for a refund. It`s kind of cool because if you go to the bottom of their page and click return policy, its only 1 sentence. (I am just a loyal customer and do not work for or hae any affil. with them)
Any other questions feel free to ask!
Q: What should i get him?

Q: Love the Outdoors. Where to go for Spring Break?
I am a college student, and I love to hike/walk/camp/trek/river raft/etc, but I am on a very limited budget.
Right now I’m in Eastern Washington, and it’s too cold to do any of those things for Spring Break, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to go (So Cal? AZ? etc.) that will be warm around mid-March.
I have a week, and I’ve heard about Zion and obviously the Grand Canyon would be great, but my bank account is quite low, so transportation to a warm place is an issue. Lost cause?
P.S. I have most of the gear I might need, it’s just airfare that’s a problem.
P.P.S. I love camping, or just a series of day hikes, I LOVE fishing (pref. for things that use trout equipment), I like rugged terrain, and I LOVE taking pictures.
A: Awfully cold in the Southwest this year. Fishing may be poor into May!

Q: I am going on a hiking trip with my school. And Im really pumped. But I need some help on what to bring.?
I am going on a hiking trip with my highschool next week and i need some help on what to bring for my trip. My family never goes camping/ hiking. My dad doesnt like it, neither does my mom, and my brother couldnt care for it. But I like to be outdoors, and take risks. The only problem is that I dont have any hiking gear or experience. I was told that I need to pack light and practicle, but I also want to be comfortable too. I am going for two nights and three days. I know Im not going to be the most comfortable while im hiking, but I just need some tips from people that have experience in this area on what to bring thats practicle and light for me to carry on an 8 hour hike, but also comfortable for me to sleep at night too. My school is supplying us with hiking backpacks and small portable propaine stoves. We are in groups for this trip so some people are bringing tents and we all have to prepare a meal for the group during the trip. I also need to bring a self inflating sleeping pad, and some pots and pans too. What else do I need to bring to stay most comfortable? (including personal items, but excluding ipods and technology devices- were not allowed bringing those)
A: I don’t know what the weather is going to be like where you are going camping but I suggest checking out the weather report ahead of time. Where my family goes camping in McCurtain County’s Beavers Bend area in Southeast Oklahoma it’s usually really comfortable but can get chilly at night in the winter. Since you want to pack as light as possible I would suggest bringing just a couple pairs of socks, underwear and t-shirts. Make your outer layers as durable and easy to peel on and off as needed but no extras. Make sure you have a hat and good hiking shoes or at least shoes that have a tread and protect your whole foot. You may also want to bring a toothbrush and sunscreen that has a built in bug repellent. If you’re concerned about getting blisters on your feet, which does often happen…Band-aid makes an anti-friction stick which is only .34 ounces, so it will fit easily into your back-pack. It looks like a tiny deodorant stick and you rub it on the places where you could get blisters before you put on your socks.
We always have so much fun at Beavers Bend State Park fishing for trout. We don’t use a pan to cook our catch, we use aluminum foil. You make a packet/ envelope for the fish with the foil and seal it inside, then place it in the campfire for about three minutes per side. It’s delicious and easy and requires no scrubbing pots and pans. Even if you don’t catch any fish you can prepare almost anything in the foil packets, that’s not liquid.
Hope you have a great trip!
Q: Is our relationship too damaged to continue?
There is a lot in our history.
She is a complete shut in most of the time, I like the outdoors. We don’t like the same type of music. We don’t agree on religion, finances, or life goals. We have had horrible fights in the past. She threatens to leave constantly but never does. She won’t lift a finger at the house, and won’t go to work. I work two jobs, clean up the house for her, and pay all the bills. She doesn’t take care of herself and constantly makes me buy fitness gear then it sits around and collects dust. I love to workout, hike, camp, bike, etc.
Well, I do try and talk to her but it’s always an argument.
I try and involve myself in what she does, but mostly it’s sitting at a computer all day playing an online videogame. That isn’t something I can partake in.
I hardly know who she is anymore.
Well, I suggested councilling too, she argues with me. She won’t even consider that she may be wrong.
A: I think there may be more to this than meets the eye.
So she don’t like your music.
She don’t like your religious views.
She don’t like how you want the finances to be regulated.
She don’t like ………. the list goes on!
Seems the poor old girl can’t do anything correct in your eyes does it.
To me this sounds like she is in deep depression and has got herself into a big rut. Everything she ever tries to do gets critisized to the point that she gives up even trying.
There is a big word here that needs to be learned “Empathy”. You need to be able to see how the world looks from her eyes too and let yourself understand why she is like she is.
Yes, you can give up if you really want to, but is that what you really want? Just stand back and think for a while. Why is the reason that you fell in love with her in the first place? Think about all the good times that you have had in the past. Try to think about the reasons things have changed between the both of you.
Does she like to worry about the most trivial things in your eyes? Have you got any kids? Kids really change priorities and you lose sight of where you are heading until one day you think to yourself “what the hell has happened to us”.
You need to stand back a little and look how the situation really is. You would not be writing this Question if you didnt think it would be still possible to fix this would you. Also she has threatened to leave on many occasions but has never left. Maybe she wants things better too.
I can tell you now that you do not have an easy road ahead of you and with working the 2 jobs it makes it much harder. BUT, you can both fix things up to an acceptable standard if that is what you both want to do.
One thing for sure is that you must let yourself relax down and not be so sensitive about things. If something falls on the floor and it breaks then just clean it up. Don’t get annoyed about it. I know it is hard for both of you to talk to each other because you have both allowed yourselves to grow apart, but you must still try. Reminising about things you both did together in the past is a very good thing. Talking about your fun times together.
Suprise her and get her a gift that she would like without you expecting anything else in return. But also on the other hand do not try to do so much for her that she has more free time to herself to sit down and worry about things. Negative thoughts cause negative reactions , so if you want to try to get things to improve you must think positive and do your best to be positive.
Good Luck.
