Q: Can a person pull a small camping trailer on a trip down along the cost of Mexico for a vacation?
if so what would have to be done, also what amount of extra cost would be added for pulling a small camper hooked to my truck as far as fee’s are involved crossing into mexico, thanks for any information and have a nice day.

A: The extra cost is on the toll roads … unless you avoid them. Taking the free roads takes a little more planning. It would be cheaper with a truck and camper.

Yes … insurance … a must.

Q: what kind of power do you need to pull a small camping trailer?

A: Any half-ton truck with a V8 engine in it should be sufficient to pull a small camping trailer.

Q: What is safer, a “white gas”/coleman gas or a propane stove to use inside a camping trailer.?
We just bought a small trailer for camping. I mean small. It doesn’t have a stove so we need to get a little portable one. Which is safer, propane or gas? Which is the most economical? thanks

A: To put it bluntly….. None of them. They all produce carbon monoxide. When used in small enclosed spaces you can quickly be overcome by the carbon monoxide. Over the past 20 some odd years I have responded to many calls where people have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

On a quick foot note if you plan on using the camper in parks that have electrical hook ups you can use an electric heater. They emit no carbon monoxide, and will turn off if they get knocked over.

Good Luck

Q: Estimated weight of older 12 and/or 16 foot camping trailer?
Im looking to buy a very small camping trailer and Im wondering about how much they weigh. I understand the weight will vary. Just looking for people who might have a camper this size and know the weight.
Trying to figure out if I need to trade in my vehicle first.
Thanks

A: weight is about 1k-1500lbs on most models….but varies greatly with gear packed into them……

also a big problem with towing them is not so much their weight as their likely hood to “catch” wind going down the hwy…….which can cause them to fishtail and or rollover……..

Q: Im wondering if I can tow a small camp trailer(16 feet) with my Honda CRV?
The tow rating is like 1500 pounds in the US but I talked to someone who said it would be fine and the tow rating for the same car in Europe is 3500 pounds…it seems like it would be fine. Anyone towed a small trailer with a CRV???

A: You are mistaken. No CRV anywhere is rated 3500lbs. You must have it confused with an MDX or pilot..and even those thats the upper limit as.. A CRV is based on a civic chassis and 1500LBS is the max. You would be extremely foolish to tow anything bigger, yould likley ruin your transmission and then your shocks/various body joints. the car would squeak and be beat up. I tow a 900LB jetski with my acura and that is extremely stressful on my differential.

Q: can i legally fit an inner tube to the tyres on my trailer?
Is it acceptable to fit inner tubes to the wheels on my small camping trailer for use on UK roads?

A: An out of control car and trailer have the weight to do a lot of damage so you risk the lives of everyone in and around your car…

Yet the UK has no trailer MOT test, so making sure yours is safe is entirely your responsibility…

Never use an inner tube in a trailer wheel, because they deflate suddenly when punctured…

Q: My son just returned from a short RV trip in his small 5th wheel trailer. While camping, there was suddenly?
a very bad smell in the trailer. He traced it to the battery compartment. The battery was extremely hot and was starting to melt. What caused this? A problem with the battery itself, or a problem with the “converter” that takes 110 AC power and converts it into DC power?

A: Ho old is the battery?? if it was swollen and it was giving off the sulfur battery smell you may have a bummer battery. If you have a bad cell in a deep chargee battery and you continue to put charge to it it will always over charg to try to get the dead cell to charge thinking that the battery is not charged to capaticty Any way put a load test on it if it reads low i mean if it is a 12 volt battery and it reads in the 6s or 7s the battery is toast if you are getting a good reading like 9s and 10s and above your battery is cooking because of a over active alternator. as it is charging i would hook up a volt meter to the positive terminal and the other probe to the neg terminal and see what the reading is if it is 16 and above you have a bummer alternator putting a much higher charge then what your battery wants. 12 to 14.5 volts is cool above is iffy at 16 you are cooking the battery water..oh b the way do you have battery water in the battery?? big deal there also good luck

Q: Mouseproofing a tent or camp trailer?
My friend and I camp a lot either in tents or a small camp trailer. She is terrified of mice but would tear up a grizzly bear. Does anyone know how or what to ring around the ground perimeter of the tent or trailer to keep mice away?

A: For a trailer try to find some hedge apples (osage orange). What you want is the big green bumpy fruit. It is about the size of a softball and heavy. Late summer till early winter is when you find them on the trees. Put one every 5 feet or so in the trailer – in cabinets, under the couch or bed, etc. Most people can’t smell them but mice can. And they evidently don’t like it. After about a week the odor will penetrate everywhere and no more mice. After several months the fruit will dry to about half it’s original size and be brown and very lightweight. Time to replace them. As for tents, if mice want in they will get in.

Q: What’s the best size trailer (utility) to pull with a 4 cyl. Saturn Vue?
I want to buy a trailer for my Saturn. I’m using this trailer for extra camping equipment. I’ve heard that the bigger the tire the less likely the bearings will burn out. This will be about a 2000 mile trip. My Bro – n- Law has a small trailer that would do the job,but I worry about the high ,sustained speeds, between 60 and 75 mph,if it will burn the bearings out.

A: Your vue can handle a maximum of 1500lbs. Do not exceed this. a small trailer will work just fine but you cannot exceed 55mph, you could do probably 60 with out a problem but not much more than that. Again you can use any type of trailer but you will have to make sure your under 1500lbs and follow the trailers speed limits. If you go over the 1500lbs capasity you will add wear to your engine trans and brakes and will have problems in the future. Your best bet is go to u-haul and rent a small tailer but the speed limit will be 55. I hope this helps

Q: What’s the best large car (family of 5) for $10/gallon gas?
One that could pull a small camping trailer?

A: 2008 Ford Taurus 29MPG on highway and 263 horsepower….its a great car…..and very responsive

Q: Looking desperately for a compact microwave for trailer?
I am looking for a small microwave to fit in my Casita Camping Trailer and I cannot find anything although I know that Conair used to make a Micro-Mite Microwave and Sharp used to make a Sharp Carousel Half Pint Microwave. I have called a bunch of stores where I live (Cincinnati, Ohio) and none of them seems to be carrying that brand or any compact microwave for that matter. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

A: I found a few links for compact microwaves, hope this helps:

Q: Small cage for guinea pigs while camping?
im going camping in about 1 week!
I have a HUGGGEEE C&C cage made for my 2 guineapigs!
But the cage wont fit in my trailer!can i have them in a smaller cage if i play with them often?

A: Yes, of course! They won’t mind being in a small cage for a couple of days so long as they still get tons of attention.

Q: Market for a good used SUV next year?
I was thinking about a Chevy Equinox, are they any
good can you do light towing with them like a boat,
jet skis or a small camping trailer? or should I go
with a Trailblazer if I will be towing?

A: Yeah they should be fine with light towing. I’d look at something like a used Lexus RX330 or Acura MDX. They are all around nicer SUVs.

Q: Where can I purchase a small, enclosed cargo trailer?
I want to purchase a small cargo trailer, for carrying camp gear, etc. You don’t see them too often, but they’re like a small “pod” shape, with a lid that locks. They’re like the tiny enclosed cargo trailers that you sometimes see towed behind motorcycles, only they’re a bit bigger for use with a car. Everything I find online is either for use with motorcycles so too small, or too huge such as horse trailer size, or for hauling ATV’s & boats, or open utility trailers when I need an enclosed variety. If you could give a website or dealer name that would help alot. Thanks in advance.

A: Budget and Uhaul sells their old used ones.

Q: 4×4 with towing capability and fuel economy?
So i want something that can tow a boat or a small camp trailer and if it had four wheel drive that would be a plus. But what vehicle has the best fuel economy and can do this?

A: well that already marks out all foriegn manufactorers, only american manufactorers make anything made for towing, and having 4×4 decreases the amount that can be towed if you didn’t already know..

I’d say a Tahoe would be perfect
